MARC WARREN endured a roller-coaster round on day two of the BMW PGA Championship - but the Glasgow ace is confident he can still be a contender over the weekend at Wentworth.

The 34-year-old added an eventful two-over 74 to his opening 68 for a two-under 142 as his tilt at the European Tour's flagship title suffered a setback.

Warren, beaten in a play-off at Wentworth in 2013, had been making steady progress over the West Course until the wheels came off with back-to-back double bogeys on the 12th and 13th.

The former World Cup winner rallied and repaired some of the damage with a brace of birdies at 15 and 16 as he battled to salvage the situation.

But another leaked shot on the last, after he found himself plugged under the lip of the greenside bunker, dropped him back again.

With Francesco Molinari, another of the morning starters, setting the early clubhouse pace on a 10-under tally, Warren had a sizeable catch-up job on his hands.

But the former Walker Cup player was remaining upbeat as he looked forward to the closing 36 holes.

"What a game this is eh?," said Warren with a wry smile. "Apart from those two holes, I played pretty solidly. I was cruising along nicely and then the double bogeys happened. But this is the kind of course where those things can happen. That's why I'm confident that I can get back in it and still be in the hunt."

Warren's fellow-Glaswegian, Scott Jamieson, hauled himself up the order with a tidy four-under 68, which left him on the same aggregate of 142.

The Cathkin Braes man reeled off four birdies on a profitable front nine, including three in a row at the fourth, fifth and sixth, as he made a significant stride up the leaderboard.

Jamieson, who finished with sizzling 64 in the closing round of the Spanish Open last Sunday, said: "I've kept telling myself recently that I have been playing well. I just need to stay patient and the results will come."
