JOHN HIGGINS went down 6-5 to Mark Davis in the UK Championship – despite recording a 147 to kick-start an astonishing fightback.

The Scot earned his £10,000 bonus by notching up the maximum break while trailing 5-2 in the second round clash.

It led to a pulsating finale as the Wishaw Wizard clawed the match back to five-apiece.

However, after only needing to pot pink and black to win, he fluffed his lines as Davis pulled through.

ICE HOCKEY: Drew Miller turned in yet another dazzling display last night as he netted four of Braehead Clan's five goals as they defeated the Fife Flyers 5-3, writes Scott Mullen.

The NHL superstar, who has claimed eight strikes in his last four outings, simply outshone everyone at the Braehead Arena as Jordan Krestanovich's men claimed a third win in their last four games, their best return since mid-October.

The Detroit Red Wing put the home side ahead on seven minutes before pulling them level in the second period after Todd Dutiaume and ex-Clan favourite Bobby Chaumont hit back for the Taysiders.

Miller and Ash Goldie both struck early in the third before Kris Hogg popped up to pull one back for the visitors.

But Braehead's No.20 was to round things off in style as he slotted into an empty net as Flyers were caught on the counter.
