McLaren memories a spur for Lewis

Lewis Hamilton knows he is in for a "tough" weekend as he prepares for his last race with McLaren.

After 14 years with the team – the last six in Formula One – the Englishman brings the curtain down on his time with the team in this weekend's Brazilian Grand Prix.

Hamilton became world champion at Interlagos in 2008 in the most dramatic of circumstances. With Felipe Massa having won the race, Hamilton made a move on Timo Glock into the final corner on the last lap of what was the last race of the season to finish fifth – and grab the title.

In need of a new challenge, Hamilton will join Mercedes next season on a three-year contract worth £45m.

Giving his thoughts on his final days with McLaren, Hamilton said: "It's a tough one, but I take away with me only the positive memories of our journey together, signing up together, winning our first race and our championship.

"I only have good memories, just the greatest memories of the best experiences."

Meanwhile, Sebastian Vettel has admitted Michael Schumacher will always remain an inspiration as he bids farewell to his former hero this weekend.

The seven-times world champion bows out of the sport for good this weekend.

And countryman Vettel admits it will be a bitter-sweet occasion.

He said: "He was my childhood hero, and not just for me, but for many other kids. When I met him the first time I didn't know what to say because I didn't want to ask something stupid.

"Today it's bit different because you are more grown up, you have a normal relationship. These last couple of years have been very special, the relationship we share is very special. So he will always be an inspiration for myself."
