SOME sceptics back home may have thought he was barking up the wrong tree, but Drew Miller is determined to make Braehead Clan top dogs during his spell in Scotland.

The Stanley Cup winner arrived in Glasgow yesterday to join up with head coach Jordan Krestanovich and his side while a financial fall-out has put the NHL into lockout.

And the Detroit Red Wings ace, who will go straight in against Dundee Stars at the Braehead Arena tomorrow night, is delighted to be strutting his stuff in the UK, despite some members of the family not following him over.

"Everything went really quickly," said the 28-year-old New Jersey native.

"We agreed the deal last Wednesday and then the process started. We had to get everything sorted back home; two dogs had to go to the parents and we had to close the house up and move.

"I got on the ice yesterday and I felt better being on the ice with the team."

Miller admits his knowledge of the Elite League isn't what you would consider to be encyclopaedic, but he is sure he can make his mark at Clan.

"I didn't really know much about the league," he admitted. "I knew some players that had come into this league, and once my European agent spoke to me about coming here he said a lot of good things about the team.

"He had played with Jordan (Krestanovich) and said he was a great coach. They have a great team and it seemed like a great place to come to."

He added: "We are locked out and as of now it doesn't look like they are going to get it figured out for the next month or so.

"This gives me an opportunity to play – hockey is hockey and you have to play hard wherever you're at and try and help the team."

Clan general manager Kirsty Longmuir added: "It is not just our fans that will want to watch these games, I hope that other hockey fans realise just how big an opportunity this is to come and see Drew."
