Rising Scots star Bradley Neil was today looking forward to his Major moments after winning the Amateur Championship at Royal Portrush.

The Blairgowrie teenager dumped South Africa's Zander Lombard 2 and 1 in the 36-hole final to become the first Scot since 2004 to win the unpaid game's biggest prize.

Neil, 18, now has a tee-time for July's Open as well as invitations to next year's Masters and US Open.

He said: "I was in tears when I came off. I realised how life-changing this win is and what I now have ahead of me. It's a total dream and I still feel like I will wake up."

Meanwhile, inspired by Martin Kaymer's wire-to-wire US Open triumph, Finland's Mikko Ilonen claimed his fourth European Tour title in the Irish Open yesterday.

Ilonen carded a final round of 70 at Fota Island to finish 13-under-par, one shot ahead of Italy's Edoardo Molinari.

The 34-year-old said: "I sent a message to Martin last week that I really enjoyed watching the US Open. I very rarely enjoy watching it, but Martin's win inspired me. I was thinking about winning this tournament from midday Thursday."
