Paul di Resta picked up two championship points after finishing ninth in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix – despite a puncture on the opening corner.

The Force India driver, who now has 46 points, said: "[The puncture] cost me a lot of ground, but the first safety car brought me back into play. I'm happy to come away with some points considering the way the race unfolded."

And his drive earned praise from deputy team principal Bob Fernley, who said: "Paul battled hard and was unlucky not to finish higher up the order."

Kimi Raikkonen (Lotus) scored his first Formula One win for more than three years by taking the chequered flag ahead of Ferrari's Fernando Alonso, who only managed to cut the gap on title rival Sebastian Vettel by three points to 10. Jenson Button was fourth, while Lewis Hamilton retired.

GOLF: Ian Poulter has climbed from 26th to 15th in the world after his two-shot victory at the WGC-HSBC Champions in China. It was his first solo win since the Australian Masters last December.

BASKETBALL: Glasgow Rocks held off Worcester Wolves 85-79 to pick up only their second win of the league campaign. And it was player-coach Sterling Davis who led from the front at the Emirates Arena, top-scoring with 20 points to take the some of the pressure off his struggling side.

WOMEN'S FOOTBALL: Champions Glasgow City finished their SWPL campaign with a 2-0 win over Spartans in Edinburgh. Jane Ross gave City the ideal boost before next Sunday's Scottish Cup final.
