ROBBIE RENWICK has vowed to defend his Commonwealth title when he returns to the pool this summer.

With three Commonwealth medals in the bag already, the Olympian is focusing all his energy on repeating his Delhi performance in Glasgow.

Selected as part of Team Scotland's largest ever aquatics team, he will join the likes of Olympic silver medallist Michael Jamieson and Hannah Miley in the 38-strong squad.

Despite a rocky start in the Scottish national championships earlier this month, Renwick made all the qualifying times to secure his place.

Following the announcement at Tollcross International Swimming Centre, he said: "To get on Team Scotland was very hard for me but I feel like the pressure is off now.

"There is a lot of pressure and nerves coming into qualification meets but it was always a case of just getting myself on the team.

"I didn't really compromise my training much to get on the team so I have been able to maintain my training throughout that.

"The purpose of that is the goal is the Commonwealth Games this summer and trying to get my gold medal back.

"The best way for me to do that was to try and compromise my training as little as possible."

Renwick, who won gold in the 200metre Freestyle in 2010 as well as silver in the 4x200m Freestyle Relay in Delhi and Melbourne 2006, has qualified in five events.

As well as his speciality 200m Freestyle he will race the 400m and three relay events.

The former Strathclyde University student who lives in Glasgow's east end and trains with City of Glasgow is hoping to capitalise on home advantage.

"At the end of the day it is just about me and my competitors getting in and racing," he said. "I am going to use the home support to push me down that last length when I am really hurting.

"I was Commonwealth champion four years ago, I would absolutely love to get my title back again, that's why I train so hard."
