SCALLOP is worth another shot in the winner.co.uk Handicap at Lingfield after failing to sparkle on her latest outing.

Sir Michael Stoute's charge made quite an impression when second on her racecourse bow in May before going on to Carlisle glory on her very next start.

Switched to handicap company at Nottingham, Scallop again put her best foot forward as she repelled the challenge of Cay Dancer by a short head in what was a bit of a muddling race.

Given that factor, the handicapper was not too harsh in dishing out a 3lb rise ahead of a trip to Beverley for a similar event to this at the end of August.

She was a bit free early on that day, though, and did not look totally at home on the Westwood ground, eventually having to settle for fourth behind prolific winner Truancy.

A four-and-a-half-length defeat was no disgrace and has seen the handicapper ease her rating to 86 as she steps up to 12 furlongs for the first time here.

Scallop has always looked a bit of a galloper and given that her dam, Quiff, was a Yorkshire Oaks winner and a St Leger runner-up, there is plenty to suggest the trip should see her come into her own.

Missed Call should be thereabouts in the £10 Free Bet At 32Red Sport Handicap at Nottingham.

The four-year-old paid the price for some decent efforts last term, most notably when narrowly held by subsequent Pattern-placed runner Odeliz, by starting the campaign on a perch of 85.

While the handicapper has not been too generous in easing her back by 2lb, she put up a promising show when fourth after a bit of a lay-off at Newmarket last month.

She was beaten over six lengths that day but the run could have set her straight for this event and as she has shown form on ground with ease, the recent wet weather is also in her favour.
