STEWART DICKSON insists it will be a different Glasgow Tigers taking to the speedway track this weekend - with the carrot of being the first side to defeat their biggest rivals.

The Tigers take on Edinburgh Monarchs home and away in the League Cup, just a few weeks after the teams met in the Air Fence Challenge.

Edinburgh won both those fixtures and have since won four more in the cup, including an impressive victory away at Premier League title favourites Workington.

Glasgow, on the other hand, have suffered two away defeats.

This Sunday is set to be their first home competitive fixture of the campaign after the weather claimed the previous two on the calendar.

And team manager Dickson is calling for his top men to lead the way and end the Monarchs' winning streak.

He said: "There are certain areas of the team we are happy with and certain areas where we know what the problem is.

"Kevin Wolbert has not got going yet, and to a lesser extent, neither has Theo Pijper.

"Myself and Theo were in at the track on Wednesday for two hours, testing set-ups and getting things sorted, so fingers crossed we'll see a different Theo this weekend.

"Kevin had two rides on his first bike at Berwick last Saturday, and then switched to his second bike for his last two rides. As much as he didn't win a race, he looked a lot better.

"He knows he needs to get going, because as I've always said, I think the make-up of the side is fine.

"But I'm not being greedy when I think we're looking for another four points each from Wolbert and Pijper, which would make a heck of a difference.

"We go into tonight at Armadale and, unfortunately, we don't have our two Danish reserves. They're racing in a Danish Under-21 qualifier tomorrow - but they will be there on Sunday.

"We are looking - whether it be tonight or Sunday - to be the first team to lower their colours. What an incentive for our riders to be the first team to beat Edinburgh all season.

"That's got to be the target, and that's what I'll be drumming into the riders."

One area of the team Dickson is happy with is the team spirit.

He added: "We know the results - we're not too disheartened by them.

"There is a good feeling in the camp, even though we've lost our first four matches.

"But we need to get that win as quickly as we can. The target is definitely to win the match on Sunday.

"The weather forecast is good for tonight and Sunday, so people can prepare knowing that the speedway is going to be on."

National League duo James McBain and Chris Widman will deputise at reserve for Tigers tonight.
