GLASGOW Tigers' season is at an end after it was confirmed that their final fixtures will not be fulfilled.

The speedway side have not raced at home since September 28 after they were scuppered in three separate attempts to run outstanding matches against Workington and Berwick.

Sunday was the last time the Ashfield side would have been able to race the fixtures before this Saturday's season deadline.

Heavy rain put paid to that, and after governing body approval it has now been confirmed that the matches won't be run.

That means the Tigers end the season in 11th place in the Premier League, only two above the bottom spot, but their 31-point haul is 22 better than last season.

Club director Derek Smith said: "Clearly, having last staged a home fixture on September 28, it isn't the manner in which we would all wish to bring down the curtain at the end of a full season of racing."

He thanked fans, staff suppliers and sponsors for their help and added: "We plan, soon, to bring news regarding the club's future, and to meet with fans at events during the close season to offer the opportunity to learn more and discuss this further with us."

One of those winter events is pencilled in for November 22 at Ibrox Stadium when teams from Glasgow, Edinburgh and Berwick will take part in a Question of Sport-style quiz organised by fans' group STARs.

It could also prove to be one of the first chances for fans to gain an insight into plans for the 2015 British speedway season, with an update due from the promoters' conference the previous week.
