Titwood ready for return of Saltires

CLYDESDALE'S Titwood ground is set to host Saltires' fixtures for the first time in three years.

The Glasgow venue has been overlooked in favour of grounds in Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Uddingston in recent seasons.

However, it's believed Titwood will stage a number of CB40 fixtures in what will be the Saltires' final season of competition against county opposition.

FORMULA ONE: The Nuerburgring is set to host this year's German Grand Prix and a deal could be agreed this week after further talks, Formula One's supremo Bernie Ecclestone said.

The 82-year-old also said the calendar, would have 19 races rather than the 20 slots available.

The Nuerburgring and Hockenheim have alternated as venues for the German Grand Prix in recent years, with the former due to host this year's round. However, the circuit's financial problems have led to uncertainty.

"It should be the Nuerburgring and we are trying to make it happen," said Ecclestone.

"The biggest weakness we have is the economy but we can overcome it," said Olympic Committee president Alejandro Blanco.

TENNIS: A record of 70 points for the longest tie-break in professional tennis has been set at a Futures event in Florida when Monaco's world No.636 Benjamin Balleret beat unranked compatriot Guillaume Couillard 36-34.

"We haven't been able to find a tie-break that went longer than this," the International Tennis Federation said on their Twitter account yesterday of the marathon tie-break.
