Royal & Ancient chief Peter Dawson last night gave assurances that Turnberry's place on the Open Championship rota was safe.
With Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland being invited back on to the list of venues that will host golf's oldest Major, there were concerns that the famed Ayrshire links, which is one of the least attended of all the Open courses due to its relative remoteness, could be in danger of being sacrificed.
But Dawson insisted Turnberry, recently bought over by American tycoon Donald Trump, is still very much part of the R&A's future plans.
He said: "Nothing is coming off the rota. We are very happy with all our Open venues. Royal Portrush is an addition, not a substitution. They are all in our plans."
Portrush is not expected to host the event before 2019.
