Marc Warren has a Major target in his sights this week as he looks to lock up a place in the US Open with a strong showing in the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth.

The Glasgow golfer is making his first appearance on the European Tour since February after a stint competing on the PGA Tour in America.

Warren, a three-time winner on the European circuit, sits in 57th spot on the world rankings and should he still be in the top 60 come Sunday night, the former Walker Cup star will be assured of a tee-time for the second Major Championship of the campaign at Chambers Bay in June.

He said: "The way the rankings work I could have potentially not played this week and stayed inside the top 60 but when you're inside, it's in your hands and you want to play well and take control of it yourself. The way my game's feeling, and on this golf course that I like, I feel as though I can do that."

The West course at Wentworth certainly suits Warren's eye and the 34-year-old has put together a decent body of work in this neck of the woods in recent years.

He came close to claiming the biggest title of his career here in 2013 when he lost out in a three-man play-off.

That near miss then was one of a number of close shaves Warren had on the European Tour as he strived to end a title drought stretching back to 2007 on the main circuit

The former Challenge Tour winner finally managed that task last season when he won in Denmark to continue his rise up the golfing order and he began his 2015 campaign with a second place finish in Qatar.

As a winner on the circuit last season, Warren was present at the Tour's annual dinner on Tuesday night where the achievements of Europe's golfers in 2014 were celebrated.

"It made me realise that I really needed to go and buy a new dinner suit because the last time I had one on was at the awards dinner in 2008, the year after I won," added Warren with a smile. "It still had a business card in it from a guy I met at that dinner. That was the last time I had it on and I was just delighted the fact it fitted more than anything else."

Warren will be hoping to be dressed for success at Wentworth this week and he is hoping that Rangers measure up nicely in the play-offs too.

He said: "If they come through on Saturday night I'll have a massive skip in my step for the final round here."
