GLASGOW golfer Marc Warren fed off some his happier Wentworth memories to ease through into the weekend's action in the BMW PGA Championship.

On a largely gusty and wet day in the Surrey stockbroker belt, Warren harnessed the conditions to good effect and posted a spirited three-under 69 which left him on a two-under tally of 142.

Warren, a two-time winner on the European Tour, lost out in a three-man play-off for the title at Wentworth a year ago.

But he took the positives from that experience and used them to his advantage yesterday as he tucked himself into the upper reaches of the leaderboard.

Warren said: "It's nice to go round a course where you have good memories and chatting about it.

"Obviously it's a tough golf course at the best of times but with the conditions changing the way they did it was even tougher.

"It was tricky coming in the last few holes, but anything in the 60s today was a good round of golf and I'm delighted with the way I played.

"I was in control of the ball all the way around and it required a lot of different shots out there which I think I did pretty well."

Glasgow-born Chris Doak joined Warren on the two-under mark after a long shift at the office.

The 36-year-old had to return first thing in the morning to complete the last five holes of his delayed first round and finished off a three-under 69 before adding a 72.

He said: "I was flagging at the end and the legs just went a bit."
