DEREK ROEHL is convinced he is in a team that is going places after making the switch from Fife Flyers to Braehead Clan.

The 26-year-old notched 60 appearances for the Kirkcaldy club last term, recording 26 goals and 21 assists in the process before his summer move to the west. It's a transition between two bitter rivals which has been a rare occurrence in recent years.

But after Clan netted two wins in the opening weekend of the EIHL campaign against Belfast Giants and Hull Stingrays, Roehl is sure Braehead is the place to be.

"There's a rivalry, but I'm still good buddies with the guys in Fife, there's no grudges.

"We give each other a hard time here and there, but it's a game and we're having fun. I'm looking forward to playing Fife."

While the two teams clash next week, Roehl was happy to reflect on a successful opening to his term at the Braehead Arena last weekend.

As well as scoring in open play against Belfast, the former Fort Wayne Comet hit the winning penalty shot to sink last term's league winners following a 3-3 stalemate.

Clan then went on to win in Hull 8-6 the next day, and Roehl says the Glasgow club are keen to send out a message of intent to their rivals.

He said: "It was a big game for us against Belfast as it was our only home game for a month, so it was important to come out strongly and send a message. We wanted to address it early on that we are going to be a strong team in this league and we got the two results we were looking for.

"It's my second year in the league. I enjoyed my time in Fife and we had one hell of a run at the end of the season.

"I'm just happy to be here now, though. I think it's a great group, it's going to be an easy transition with these guys."
