Novak Djokovic began his Paris Masters title defence with a 6-3, 6-4 win over German Philipp Kohlschreiber in the second round yesterday.
It was the world No.1's first match since the birth of his son, Stefan, last week.
Djokovic, who had a first-round bye, now faces American John Isner or Frenchman Gael Monfils for a place in the quarter-finals.
The 27-year-old Serb is in a race with Roger Federer to end the season on top of the rankings. Swiss ace Federer opens his campaign today with a match against France's Jeremy Chardy.
