HAMILTON will make it ten games without a win if they drop points at Aberdeen today and it’s a run which is beginning to grate with everyone at the club.

Manager Martin Canning was told in no uncertain ways where to go by a section of supporters as his side lost to ten-man Celtic on Christmas Eve. Two goals is the only thing keeping them above Inverness at the foot of the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership.

And the players haven’t escaped the blame either. Their last win came on October 25, a home victory over Aberdeen as it happens, and it’s been tough viewing for the most part since then.

Hamilton do punch above their weight; however, they should be doing better than this, in terms of results, because this team are capable of playing well in matches only to walk off the pitch with yet more boos ringing in their ears.

“It’s getting frustrating,” admitted forward Darian MacKinnon. “We played okay against Celtic and we have been doing okay but we’ve just not been clinical enough.

“We need to pick up points – we really need to get a draw up there and a win against Motherwell – mood completely. The frustration I’ve got right now is of shear frustration.

“It’s because they were down to 10 men. If they cut you open with great football you would hold your hands up but all three goals came from mistakes from us. That’s just rubbish.

“You are training every week so you need to cut these things out. We can’t keep saying it. It will be really tough up there as they’ll feel they owe us one after the results here.

“You just need to go up there and play. I’m happy we at least had a go against Celtic instead of just staying in our shape. There are positives to take as well. It just hard to think of that just now.

“We can’t go into the break without a win. I was hoping to beat Celtic for the sake of Christmas. We just need to go again.’

MacKinnon did take some consolation from the defeat to Celtic. Brendan Rodgers singled him out for some praise at the end of the match.

The Accies man revealed: “He just said that I did well and worked hard. I gave him a wee message back although I’m not going to say what that it was!

It was nice of him. He’s a good guy and a top coach as well. You see that with the change he made when they went down to 10 men.

“I wouldn’t say it knocked the stuffing out of us but it made it hard for us to break them down.”

Canning is under a bit of pressure, even if that might seem harsh given what he has to work with and the fact Hamilton are far from the worst team in the league.

He could do with a win at Pittodrie, right enough.

Canning said: “We know we are capable, on our day, I think we proved that first half against Celtic. On our day we can compete against the best teams in the league. But it is about what we can't do.

“These are the games when you can't switch off. You don't make mistakes at important times in the games. You can't switch off and we seem to be doing that at the minute, against Rangers last week and now Celtic.

“The wee mistakes against the big games. Because goals ultimately change games and change the whole mood of games. Yes, we know we can go up to Aberdeen. It is another difficult place to go but we know we can take points if we play well.”
