MK Dons have signed Hearts forward Robbie Muirhead for an undisclosed fee.

Muirhead has put pen to paper on a two-and-a-half-year deal and becomes Robbie Neilson's first signing since becoming MK Dons manager in December, having worked with the 20-year-old during his time in charge of the Scottish Premiership club.

Neilson signed Muirhead as Hearts boss and he is pleased to be working with the player again.

He told the League One club's official website: "I know Robbie really well. When I was Hearts we managed to get him...and he became one of our key players.

"He's still a young boy so it will take him some time to settle but he's got real potential. He's left-footed and is very good with the ball at his feet.

"This is an opportunity for him to come down to England and progress his career. I know he's eager to take this next step and show everyone what he's capable of."

Muirhead, who has started 36 competitive matches for Hearts, Kilmarnock, Dundee United and Partick Thistle, scored twice in Neilson's final match in charge at Tynecastle - a 2-0 victory over Rangers.
