CELTIC midfielder Stuart Armstrong could be set to earn his first senior Scotland cap after being called into Gordon Strachan's squad for games against Canada and Slovenia.

Strachan has named the on-form Hoops midfielder in his squad along with fellow uncapped midfielders Ryan Fraser of Bournemouth and Tom Cairney of Fulham.

Jordan Rhodes has received his first call for a year and a half, while Cardiff City's Allan McGregor also returns to the fold.

West Bromwich Albion midfielder Matt Phillips is included after an impressive run of form for the Premier League side, while Stephen Kingsley, Jack Hamilton, Gordon Greer and the injured Callum Paterson have dropped out since last November's defeat to England at Wembley.

Scotland face Canada in a friendly at Easter Road next Wednesday before their 2018 World Cup qualifying campaign continues with a clash against Slovenia at Hampden Park next Sunday.
