GORDON: Desperately poor goals to lose on both counts. Firstly to allow Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s effort to slide right through him and then to seem in two minds about whether to come out to the ball that Kane dispatched behind him to get England a snatched draw. Scotland keeper looked off it for most of the game with one poor headed clearance to the feet of Harry Kane in the opening half and one heart-stopping moment before the goal when he allowed Kieran Tierney’s passback to trickle under his boot. (5)

ANYA: Torrid afternoon at times, particularly in the opening half when there was little support coming his way from Robert Snodgrass. Grew into the game more and used his pace at times to try and get out of trouble. (6)

BERRA: Didn't do too much wrong

MULGREW: Couple of timely interventions and worked hard in the centre of defence. Will be disappointed at the freedom and space Kane had at the back post to grab England a last gasp leveller. (6)

TIERNEY: Good reading of the game to get back and head a Harry Kane effort off the line after Gordon’s attempted clearance. Played on the left-side of defence and although that curtailed some of his forward play, his tackling and defensive work will have did his own reputation no harm at all. (8)

ROBERTSON: Almost the ignominy of an own-goal when Jake Livermore’s shot came off him and clipped the post. Missed Scotland’s best chance when he was teed up on the edge of the box from Griffiths. Did the right thing by taking a touch by had to hit the target at least. (6)

SNODGRASS: The weak link in an opening half in which England’s main chances came from his side. Couldn’t get forward to offer support to Griffiths and couldn’t get back to help out Anya. Improved after the break but was replaced by Ryan Fraser midway through the second period. (5)

MORRISON: Looked to take an injury in the opening minutes but was kept on until the interval. Replaced by James McArthur. (5)

BROWN: Booked in the opening minutes when he went careering into Dele Alli. Was tehn beaten by England substitute Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in the build-up to the opening goal of the afternoon. (6)

ARMSTRONG: Decision not to boot the ball up the park as Scotland cleared their lines in the dying minutes will haunt him. Trying to play the ball out instead gave the ball to Raheem Sterling which ultimately led to back to England and allowed Harry Kane to draw level. One effort from the edge of the box that flew over the bar but his decision making in the late stages proved costly. (6)

GRIFFITH: The man. Not one free-kick but two in two minutes to give Scotland two goals in a game in which they never looked like scoring. Two superb free-kicks that beat Joe Hart at each side. Cracker of a free-kick to pull Scotland back into the game when he dinked it over the wall and beyond the reach of Joe Hart. Ploughed a lonely field as a small solitary striker in the land of giants. Too often let down by the shelling of high balls which he was never going to win. Little service and desperately needed to see more of the ball at his feet. Furious at not getting a penalty but looked like the right call. (8)

McARTHUR: Replaced Morrison at the interval and made a difference in the middle of the park. Helped Scotland to steady things and bring a little pressure of their own to England for a spell in the second period. (7_

FRASER: On in the second period but unable to inject his pace into the game. (4)

MARTIN: Won the free-kick that drew Leigh Griffiths' second free-kick of the day. (4)
