NEIL Lennon has revealed Hibernian are set to complete the signing of Juventus midfielder Vykintas Slivka on a season-long loan deal this week when they receive clearance from the Serie A club.

Slivka, Lithuanian internationalist who spent spells at Den Bosch in the Netherlands and Ascoli in Italy last season, has arrived in Scotland and has agreed to join the capital club.

Lennon, who last week signed striker Deivydas Matulevicius, another Lithuanian cap, has been impressed with the 22-year-old.

“We are waiting for clearance from Juventus now to get the deal completed,” he said. “He (Slivka) is in the building, but he can’t train. So we have to take care of that.

“He is just doing some fitness work and some physical work at the minute. We are just waiting for clearance to come through and the deal will get completed. He wants to come here.

“Tactically, he is very good. He is athletic, two-footed and has an eye for a goal. He covers the ground very well and looks very composed on the ball.”

Lennon added: “He played in the international against Scotland early on last season and played for Den Bosch and Escoli on loan. It is what Juventus do to bring on young players. They have a catalogue of young players and they put them out on loan.

“The opportunity came along and we liked the look of what we saw from the footage. Hopefully we can get it over the line.

“We have looked in other areas. Ideally, you want British players in. But the way the game is going and the market is going they are pricing themselves out of a move to us anyway. So we look elsewhere. We are just waiting on the paperwork and the confirmation to come through.”

Lennon believes that having both Matulevicius and Slivka in the Hibs squad will enable the Lithuanian pair to settle in Scotland.

“It can’t be easy for them to come to a new culture, a new environment, and trying to fit in,” he said. They are international team mates so it will be good for them.

“Obviously, they won’t be coming in and speaking Lithuanian all the time. But in a big city when you are away from home it is nice to have a compatriot there who is doing the same thing. They will help each other along.”
