PAUL WILSON joined Celtic in 1967 and spent 11 years at the club, becoming one of the group of players known as the Quality Street Gang, winning two league titles, two Scottish Cups and one League Cup…

TOM WHITE (Cathcart) – I was saddened to learn of the death of Paul Wilson, one of my favourite Celtic players of the Seventies. Could you tell me, is it true that he once scored in four Hampden cup finals in one season? I can’t think which finals he would play in, other than the Scottish Cup and League Cup.

Paul did indeed score in four Hampden finals in 1974-75 season. In chronological order they were.

The pre-season Drybrough Cup on August 3: Celtic 2 Rangers 2 (Celtic won on penalties); League Cup on October 26: Celtic 6 Hibernian 3; Scottish Cup on May 3: Celtic 3 Airdrieonians 1 (Paul actually scored twice in this one); and the Glasgow Cup on May 10: Celtic 2 Rangers 2 (the teams shared the trophy), Paul again scored twice in this game.

JAMES (Royston) – The recent passing of Paul Wilson reminded me of an Old Firm game I saw on television in the mid-70s when he scored two late goals to equalise after Rangers had led 2-0 at Celtic Park. Do you have details of this game?

This was the opening Premier Division fixture of 1976-77 season played on September 4.

Rangers had led through two first-half goals from the Dereks – Johnstone and Parlane.

Wilson did score a late equaliser with just three minutes to play although his first goal had come much earlier on 54 minutes.

Pat Stanton made his Hoops debut that afternoon and your recall is good as highlights were shown on Sportscene later that night.

Celtic: Latchford, McGrain, P McLuskey, MacDonald, Lynch, Glavin, Stanton, Burns, Wilson, Dalglish, Doyle.

Rangers: McCloy, Denny, Greig, Forsyth, Miller, Jardine, MacDonald, Munro, McLean, Parlane, Johnstone.

THE DUKE (via email) – Can you give me details of a match in the mid-80s when Rangers captain Craig Paterson scored for both teams? I think Clydebank may have been the opposition.

This was a Premier Division match on January 11, 1986. The result was Rangers 4 Clydebank 2.

Defender Paterson had given Gers a 1-0 half-time lead. Early in the second half he turned the ball into his own net, when trying to turn a cross from Moore behind for a corner. Lloyd then put the Bankies ahead.

However, goals from McPherson, Williamson and McCoist ensured victory for the Gers.
