SCOTLAND will face the Netherlands in an international friendly at Pittodrie this November with Malky Mackay in charge on an interim basis.

The fixture was announced by the Scottish FA on Friday, the day after Gordon Strachan's departure as national team manager, and will take place on Thursday 9 November at 7.45pm in Aberdeen.

And Chief Executive Stewart Regan confirmed that former Watford boss Mackay, currently working as an SFA Performance Director, will lead the national team for the game.

Both teams failed to qualify for next year's World Cup finals in Russia, with the Dutch also missing out on a play-off due to goal difference after finishing behind France and Sweden in Group A.

Scotland have won six of their 18 clashes with Holland in the past, also collecting four draws and losing on eight occasions.

Their last meeting was during the qualifying process for the 2010 World Cup, when the Netherlands won 1-0 at Hampden and recorded a 3-0 victory in Amsterdam.

Stewart Regan, Scottish FA Chief Executive, said: “We are delighted to bring international football back to the north east and are excited to once again welcome the Dutch national team to Scottish soil.

“While Pittodrie is not able to host competitive Scotland matches, this friendly provides a fantastic opportunity to bring international football to an abundance of Scotland fans based in the north.

“Though we are disappointed not to have qualified for the World Cup play-offs, the work begins now to prepare the team for next year’s UEFA Nations League tournament.

“The Netherlands will provide a stern test for the team and top class entertainment value for the fans.”
