AARON MUIRHEAD hopes to kickstart his season after coming in from the cold at Parkhead on Wednesday night against Celtic.

The defender has fallen down the Firhill pecking order in recent months as Alan Archibald has fielded Dan Seaborne and Conrad Balatoni, then latterly Frederic Frans, at the heart of his Partick Thistle defensive line.

Muirhead got a late call to step into the side for the Parkhead clash and coped well as Ronny Deila's side earned a 1-0 win.

Thistle host Kilmarnock at Firhill tomorrow aiming to get back to winning ways and Muirhead is eager to be involved again.

He said: "I've had to be patient this year. The manager brought in a couple of centre-halves so I've just had to work extra hard in training.

"I got my chance the other night and hopefully I can keep the shirt. Danny and Freddy have been the main men, but maybe I have put a wee doubt in the mind of the manger for Saturday.

"It's not the easiest place to go but I thought the boys did really well despite losing the game. I felt we gave a good account of ourselves."

It has been a frustrating start to the campaign for the former Annan stopper, but he is not eyeing the Firhill exit door just yet.

Muirhead said: "At the moment I just need to keep my head down and working. I enjoy it here so there's no reason for me to leave.

"But I want to be playing football and if I'm not then that's what I'll need to do."
