ALAN ARCHIBALD has urged his Partick Thistle stars to think carefully about their future as he gets set to return to the negotiating table.

As revealed in SportTimes on Tuesday, the Jags boss has been able to step up his recruitment drive for next term after his side retained their Premiership status with victory over St Mirren.

Thistle head to Hamilton this weekend aiming to keep alive their dreams of a seventh place finish, but plans have already been drawn up for the new campaign.

With twelve players out of contract at the end of the month, Archibald has little time to waste as he looks to tie down several of his Jags stars on new deals.

And the Thistle boss hopes the positive atmosphere around the club, and signs of progression on the pitch, will help him keep some of his key players at Firhill beyond the summer.

Archibald said: "I think players sometimes think we will keep giving them more money and more money, but we are not that type of club.

"We will try and do what we can. Our budget is tight, crowds are down and, while we will try and finish as high as we can, we have got a budget we have to stick to.

"We can't have the club getting into trouble financially. If they want to go elsewhere, we accept that. But what we will say to them is that the grass isn't always greener on the other side.

"We will try and make it a good environment and help them enjoy their work and hopefully it is enough to make them stay.

"Some will sign, some won't. It depends what they want to do, but I would say it isn't always worth waiting for an extra few pounds.

"Sometimes you are better where you are, at a place you enjoy playing and when the fans like you as well."
