ALAN ARCHIBALD insists Partick Thistle won't rest on their Premiership laurels despite extending their relegation advantage last weekend.

The Jags moved nine points clear of eleventh-placed Motherwell with a 3-0 win over St Johnstone at Firhill.

The visit of Inverness tomorrow gives Thistle another chance to move in the right direction and claim their third win in four games.

But Archibald insists his side will need more than the three points on offer to be sure of their top-flight place.

He said: "I think we still need a couple of wins to be safe, depending on how other results go. Around this time last season all the bottom sides started winning and putting runs together and I wouldn't be surprised if it happens again.

"When you come into this spell leading up to the split all the games are so vital and you start playing each other. A couple of wins would stand us in good stead and maybe let us relax a bit, but not until it's arithmetically impossible.

"The Hibs scenario last season has been brought up to us on many occasions. We've had two wins in the last three games so hopefully we won't be that team, but it's true that anyone is capable of doing that."

Thistle turned in one of their finest performances of the campaign to ease to success against the Saints and give themselves a timely shot in the arm after a poor recent run.

And Archibald hopes the Jags can give the Firhill fans something to cheer about for a second consecutive weekend. He said: "Hopefully we can carry that confidence into the Inverness game.

"Our home form was so bad last season so we know how important it is. The fans have a massive part to play.

"You couldn't blame them for having a go in the last few games because the performances have been awful, but they stuck by the lads and were really supportive considering how bad it had been."
