RYAN STEVENSON hopes there is plenty more to come from him this season after ending his Partick Thistle goal drought on Saturday.

The striker bagged a brace as Alan Archibald's side booked their place in the fifth round of the Scottish Cup with a 2-0 win over Hamilton at Firhill.

Stevenson's double came in his 13th appearance for Thistle as he repaid boss Archibald's faith for giving him the nod in the cup clash. And the 30-year-old is eager to add to his tally sooner rather than later after finally finding the net in red and yellow.

Stevenson said: "It has been a long time coming. It has been difficult since coming here.

"You obviously want to hit the ground running, but it didn't happen for me. I have had to dig deep at times to try and get out the rut.

"Hopefully today can be a turning point for myself and I can now kick on

"It has been difficult but, to be honest. I haven't been playing as well as I can play and that is the name of the game.

"We have got good players here and if you are not playing well they are going to take your place. I have had to go away and work hard to get back in the team so hopefully now I can take my chance and now that I have got a couple of goals I can go and get a few more."

Thistle will find out their last-16 opponents when the draw for the fifth round is made at Hampden this afternoon after they clinched a deserved win over Accies.

And Stevenson is confident Archibald's side can extend their stay in the competition after seeing off their Premiership rivals at Firhill.

He said: "There is no reason why Partick Thistle can't go on a run.

"You look at last season with St Johnstone winning the cup and there is no reason why we can't do that.

"I have been lucky enough to be involved in a cup final. They are great days and great occasions that you can go through your career and not get a chance of.

"I have said to the boys it is a great thing if it comes along. Hopefully we can get a good draw and go on a good cup run."

Having booked their place in the fifth round, Thistle will turn their attentions back to league duty when they head to Parkhead on Wednesday night.

Archibald's side crashed to a 6-0 defeat to the Hoops in the League Cup quarter-finals last month as Stuart Bannigan saw red.

Stevenson said: "It is a big game for us on Wednesday.

"We went down to Celtic a couple of weeks ago and didn't do ourselves any justice.

"It is a big game for us. Winning breeds confidence and hopefully we can take the confidence from Saturday into Wednesday.

"It will be a difficult night for us, but hopefully we can give a good account of ourselves and, if we can play as well as we can, you never know what can happen.

"It is hard enough with eleven men at Parkhead so when you go down to ten it is extra difficult.

"We will learn from that. We can go there with a bit of confidence and hopefully we can get a result."
