Partick Thistle winger Christie Elliott feels he has a new perspective on his position following an enforced spell at full-back.

Elliott played several games at left-back around the turn of the year after Jake Carroll ended a loan spell from Huddersfield and Jordan McMillan was suspended by the club.

Callum Booth joined on loan from Hibernian before the transfer window closed to allow Elliott to move further up the pitch, but the 23-year-old feels he has improved from the experience.

The Newcastle-born player said: "It was good experience. In training we have been working on different things and I've been speaking to the coaching staff and manager and he has always said I can play a few different positions.

"It was a chance for me to play in a different position because we were lacking a left-back at the time. I'm willing to play anywhere. I had been practising that position in training so it wasn't out the blue.

"We are an attacking team so I still got a lot of the ball and got opportunities to get forward.

"When I went back to left-wing, the experience was good for me to get back and defend."

Elliott's next challenge is an important Premiership game against bottom side Ross County, who boosted their survival hopes with a 3-2 win over Motherwell last weekend which cut the deficit at the bottom to three points.

Thistle are 10 points above County, but with two meetings to come in the space of 15 days, the Dingwall side could drag Alan Archibald's team into the relegation battle.

Elliott said: "It's a must-win game today really. We need to build a gap between us and the bottom three.

"The bigger the gap is, the more freedom we get to play with, the more confidence we are going to go into games with.

"We are at home and hopefully our fans get behind us again and be the twelfth man and we can stretch the gap."
