JAMES CRAIGEN hopes Partick Thistle's experience of beating the drop last term will give them the edge at the foot of the table this time out.

The Jags head to Dingwall tomorrow knowing victory would take them ten points clear of the Staggies and St Mirren in the Premiership standings.

Bottom of the table Motherwell are also in action when they host Kilmarnock as the top flight gets set for another decisive afternoon of action.

It took Alan Archibald's side until the penultimate day of the campaign before they secured their Premiership safety last season as they clinched a memorable 4-2 win at Tynecastle.

And Craigen is keen to ensure there will be no nervy repeat this time around as they gear up for a crucial clash in the Highlands.

He said: "We could have done with any of the teams below us dropping points last weekend, but that is football.

"It is one less game for them to gain ground on us. We are down to eleven games left.

"We don't want it to go down to the last few games like it did last season. That is down to us.

"We are in a stronger position this year in terms of points and position in the team so we need to keep putting points on the board. We want to be safe sooner rather than later.

"I think it will benefit us having come through it. Any experience always helps.

"We know what it is like in the split games. They can all be six-pointers.

"We have got a few games to go before that and if we can put a run together then we will be fine."

Thistle will make the trip up the A9 with a spring in their step after a terrific 2-0 win over Dundee United last Saturday.

Victory at Tannadice was a timely shot in the arm for the Jags as County, St Mirren and Motherwell all clinched maximum points on a dramatic weekend.

Jim McIntyre's side were 3-1 winners at Firhill last month and midfielder Craigen hopes a confidence boost will give the Jags the edge this for a crunch basement clash.

He said: "It was brilliant to get the three points and a good victory last weekend. It has taken a few games but it was a good win.

"There are games we could and should have won but you just have to move on. You can't change the past. You can only move forward.

"We are looking ahead to the County game and looking to get the three points.

"It would be a massive step in the right direction. It is a big game.

"They beat us at home a couple of weeks ago so we know that we need to put in a better performance because we let ourselves down that day.

"It was better on Saturday so we are going up to County with confidence.

"It was one of the most disappointing days of the season but once it was over it was about how we reacted. You can't go over the past. We will go into it with a positive attitude."
