KRIS DOOLAN reckons Partick Thistle have set a high standard for themselves after their stunning five goal demolition of Hamilton.

The Jags striker wrote his name in the history books as he netted four goals in a superb showing to give Alan Archibald's side a much-needed Premiership boost.

Victory over Accies takes Thistle seven points clear of tenth-placed Motherwell and they now head to Kilmarnock tomorrow aiming to leapfrog Allan Johnston's side in the standings.

A lack of consistency has cost the Jags dear this term as they have failed to put together a solid run of results and move towards the top six.

But Doolan hopes the confidence gained from their five star showing will inspire the Firhill side to bigger and better things this term.

He said: "I think it just shows what we are capable of. When we are on song we are good going forward and we are solid defensively so it just shows that we can really punish teams.

"It was a really good performance so when we do click it goes for us. We have the players at both ends of the pitch.

"When we play like that it shows that we can be a top six team but the thing is we have to keep that level up. We have set the bar and now we have to maintain that consistently.

"If we play like that every week then we can make the top six but it's not something we are really thinking of. As players we just keep our heads down and we won't get too far ahead of ourselves.

"We are just looking to claw back points on the teams directly above us.

"There are always things to aim for and we take it on to Kilmarnock on Saturday.

"It's a difficult league and every game is difficult. We try to give our best in each game but then when nights like Wednesday when it all clicks it shows how good we can be."

It was a night to remember for Doolan as he doubled his tally for the campaign with a clinical striking display.

After two good finishes in the first half, he completed his first Jags hat-trick with a back heel flick before heading home his fourth just minutes later.

And the 28-year-old hopes there is plenty more to come as he looks to fire Archibald's side up the top flight table.

He said: "Every time you score a goal you get a shot in the arm so to go out and score is massive so I will be looking to kick on again,

"It has been frustrating but you need to prove when you come on or when you start games that you can contribute and you can score goals and hopefully I have shown that.

"I just keep my head down and work hard. I have been here long enough and I know the manager really well so I know the reasons behind it. As I say I just have to work harder.

"I think we showed on Wednesday that if there is good service into the box then we can supply the finishes but we need to keep that service going.

"I don't think I needed cuddled or encouraged or anything like that I think I know myself what I needed to do and the manager is there backing me which is nice because that gives you confidence."
