KRIS DOOLAN reckons there is plenty more to come after opening his SPFL Premiership account on Saturday.

The striker netted Partick Thistle's first goal since their return to Scotland's top tier to set them on their way to a superb 3-1 win over Ross County.

A second-half double from forward partner Steven Lawless clinched all three points for Alan Archibald's side as they bagged their first win of the campaign.

Doolan hit 15 goals as the Jags won the First Division title last season and has been given the nod ahead of summer signing John Baird so far this term.

And the former Auchinleck Talbot star is determined to make the most of his chance to shine on the Senior game's big stage.

Doolan said: "It was brilliant to get my first top flight goal and the first goal for the team in the Premiership on Saturday.

"I was delighted to get off the mark and I am looking to kick on and score a few more now.

"I have put in a lot of hard work to get to this level and I am determined to make the most of it now that I'm here.

"The hard work will continue and hopefully I can keep scoring goals and playing well.

"I don't really set myself any targets. I just go into every game looking to do my best and get on the score sheet.

"That is my only focus. We will see come the end of the season how many I get.

"The manager brought Bairdy in early on this summer and he is a brilliant player. I like him, he brings a lot to the team and the squad.

"But I am happy that it is me the gaffer has gone with so far and that he has shown his faith in me for the first two games.

"I'm delighted he is sticking by me and I need to do my bit and score goals for the team."

With four points to their credit from their opening two Premiership fixtures, Thistle have adapted well to life back in the top flight after a nine-year absence.

Next up for Archibald's side is a clash with crisis club Hearts on Friday night.

Victory at Firhill will move Thistle 19 points clear of the Jambos and give them a healthy cushion as they look to preserve their top-flight status.

But Doolan knows the Jags can't afford to take anything for granted.

He said: "We thoroughly deserved the win against County, we came out of the blocks quickly and really took the game to them from the off.

"We wanted to get off to a good start and we have done that. But it is still early doors, we are only two games into the season, and we need to keep up the momentum now.

"We can't wait for the Hearts game. Every game is a big one for us, that is the joy of playing at the top level.

"We know that we will need to be at our best again but we are confident just now. The off-field stuff at Hearts has nothing to do with the players, they are just focusing on the game.

"It will be another tough one for us but we are looking forward to it. You would expect everyone at Hearts to rally round and make the most of what they have got on the pitch.

"They proved against Hibs that they are still a good side and they will be right up for the game on Friday night."
