PAUL GALLACHER admits Partick Thistle's last two Firhill outings highlight everything that is good and bad about the Jags this term.

Just a week after firing five goals past Hamilton Accies as they recorded their biggest win of the campaign, Alan Archibald's side crashed to defeat against St Mirren on home soil.

James Dayton netted the only goal of the game on Friday night as Thistle failed to get out of the traps and Gary Teale's side claimed all three points.

The Jags have struggled to put together a sustained run of form again this term as they have been left frustrated in the Premiership.

Gallacher said: "We are all bitterly disappointed. From the highs of the performance and result against Hamilton to the performance and result against St Mirren, it was very poor. We are all disappointed. It is points thrown away.

"There has been a lot of inconsistency to our play this season and Friday wasn't a good night for us. We were poor all round. We lost an early goal, we didn't react to the second ball and Dayton has scored. That was hard to take.

"There have been a couple of times recently where we have switched off and been sloppy and we need to rectify that.

"The game against Hamilton was a real high for us, but Friday was a real low. Everything went right that night, we played some good football and scored some great goals.

"There wasn't much between the teams, but they scored early and had something to hang on to, and they defended well. It was a really disappointed dressing room. We let a lot of people down on the night."

After Dayton had fired home early on, Thistle spent the rest of the Premiership clash trying to break down a solid Saints defensive line.

Clear chances were few and far between for Archibald's side, however, as the Buddies held on to finally record their first clean sheet of the campaign.

The Jags remain ninth in the standings but are now just seven points ahead of Teale's side as they again missed a chance to climb the top- flight table.

Gallacher said: "Both goalkeepers were hardly worked at all. We didn't create enough chances and play like we know we can. We don't want to let teams get too close to us. We are looking at the gap and games like Friday night are big ones for us.

"It was a real chance for us to pick up another three points, especially with us being at home. But it was just really poor from us.

"First and foremost, you want to guarantee safety in the division and then look to progress.

"When you have performances and results like Friday night, it is hard to take. We are just so inconsistent."

After another poor Premiership performance, Thistle will take a break from top-flight action this weekend as attentions turn to their Scottish Cup clash with Inverness Caley Thistle.

And Gallacher can't wait to get back down to business and look to right the wrongs of Friday night. He said: "The cup game will take our minds off the league form, but we would rather have had a game in midweek to try and rectify what went wrong on Friday.

"We want to get back playing and put on a better performance because it was a very poor showing from us."
