SCOTT FOX hopes it will be onwards and upwards for Partick Thistle after they claimed a point on their Premiership debut.

The Jags kicked-off Scottish football's new era with a 0-0 draw against Dundee United on Friday night to mark their return to our top flight after a nine-year wait.

In front of a packed Firhill, Alan Archibald's side were disappointed not to take all three points and begin the campaign in style.

Next on the SPFL agenda for the Jags is a trip to Ross County this weekend before they host relegation rivals Hearts as the First Division champions bid to make a flying start to the new season.

And keeper Fox is confident there is plenty more to come from Archibald's men as they settle into life at the top table.

He said: "We were not really happy with a point. With the way we played, we felt as though we could have won the game.

"There are plenty of positives for us and we will take the point but we are a bit gutted that we never got the three.

"I think we gave a great account of ourselves. We kept going right until the end and we were still looking to win the game.

"We move on now and look to next weekend, we have a lot of big games coming up. We are at Ross County on Saturday so we will go up there and look to win the game and then head into the Hearts game.

"We haven't mentioned Hearts' situation. We are trying to stay away from the bottom of the table and finish as high as we can. We will take it one game at a time and look to keep building every week."

The SPFL era may have kicked-off with a goalless draw on Friday night but there was still plenty of talking points and action as a host of former Jags, including United boss Jackie McNamara, made their Firhill returns.

Fox's ex-mentor Craig Hinchcliffe is also part of the Arabs coaching team and the Thistle No.1 is determined to build on his experience under the watchful eye of new Jags glove guru Paul Gallacher.

Fox said: "It was a bit strange, but that happens in football, you are going to play people you know or have played with.

"I'm working with Gall now and he has been great. He is pushing me all the time and the clean sheet on Friday is a positive for us both. We will be working hard together all season and will push each other."
