DECLAN McDAID hopes he will get another chance to shine after inspiring Partick Thistle to a crucial Premiership triumph over St Mirren on Saturday.

The winger came off the bench in the second half in Paisley and made an instant impact as he set up Christie Elliott to fire home the winner for Alan Archibald's side.

McDaid was a bright spark in a drab affair and was delighted with his contribution after he replaced Steven Lawless in the Jags attack.

He said: "The manager told me to go in behind and come to feet and mix it up. That time I went in behind and it worked and we scored.

"We have been doing well and playing well, but just not getting the points. Hopefully we can go on now and get a decent run.

"I have done all right today and set up a goal that won us the game, so hopefully I will at least make the bench next week and hopefully get on again and try to make an impact.

"It is a young team we have got so hopefully I can come in and be another young one to play in the first team.

"I would hope to keep coming on and making impacts and then get in the starting 11. Hopefully, I get a first-team deal at the end of it."

Thistle were deserved winners at St Mirren Park as they moved seven points clear of the beleaguered Buddies in the Premiership standings.

Tommy Craig's side almost snatched a point when Adam Drury's effort struck the bar late on, but McDaid is determined the Jags will use the Saints success as a springboard this season.

The former Morton kid said: "Last year teams scored late on a lot and this year it has happened a couple of times and killed us.

"It was lucky that Drury's shot never went in. Hopefully this is the start of our luck turning.

"We probably didn't want the international break. We would have preferred to go into next week and get another win.

"We will just have to wait. Aberdeen will be good but hopefully we can get a win there."
