IT was six of the worst for Dan Seaborne as a night of hope turned into 90 minutes to forget.

For the Partick Thistle stars who played at Parkhead in October, the 6-0 League Cup defeat to Celtic was the worst evening of the season and one of the most disappointing of their careers.

But Seaborne had been there before, suffered the shock and experienced the pain. Yet, out of that adversity, came one of the highlights of his time in the game.

The 6-1 loss he suffered at St James Park to Chesterfield while on the books of Exeter turned out to be a rare blip as he and his team-mates eventually clinched promotion to League One.

The 27-year-old defender will return to the scene of his other major drubbing tonight as Alan Archibald's side bid for revenge against the Hoops.

And he will use the experience of his heartache in England to ensure there will be no hangover in Glasgow.

Seaborne said: "That was my first big defeat as a pro. I was only 18 or 19 so it was something you take as experience in your career.

"Defeats are part and parcel, but you can learn from it and hopefully we've all learned from that defeat against Celtic and we can really drive on and go and have a good game.

"It was the kick up the backside we probably needed. We had a good start then crashed back to earth with that and went on another run.

"It was a reality check for us at that point. After the 6-0 loss to Celtic we went and had a couple of decent results and performances so it's a building process.

"I'm a defender so you've got to shoulder the blame for any goal conceded. Itwasn't a nice night in my career.

"I didn't watch it again. Definitely not. You have a think about it after the game, but then you try and leave everything after you go to bed."

Thistle made the trip to Parkhead a few weeks ago bidding to upset the odds and book their place in the League Cup semi-finals.

But it quickly turned sour as Stuart Bannigan saw red and John Guidetti bagged a hat-trick as Ronnie Deila's side eased to derby success.

Seaborne said: "Having six goals against us was tough, but it's one of those things. It was a cup game so we got it out as quickly as we could.

"It's part and parcel of the game, with the size of their club and the players they've got. They're a really good side with some very decent players. But we went there for the first 20 minutes and matched them till the red card.

"Hopefully we can keep our discipline and go there and do really well.

"It's another game. Hopefully we get a bit of a better rub of the green this time. Stuart's sending-off killed the game because we started really brightly and it would have been a good game if we'd kept 11 on the pitch."

Thistle may have missed out on a place at Hampden in the cup, but they could still enter the history books at Parkhead when they return on Premiership duty. The Jags have not won in the East End for 22 years, but Seaborne is not thinking about his potential place in Firhill folklore.

He said: "To be honest I've never taken any notice of records like that. I probably have somewhere along the line but nothing I can remember.

"We're aiming to just go and play well and get a good result.

"Records something you don't need in your mind. Before a game people say stuff like that, but I'm in my zone to have a good performance and leave that to others to talk about."
