SCOTT FOX is confident Partick Thistle have what it takes to bounce back from their Aberdeen humbling on Saturday.

The Jags suffered their first Firhill defeat of the campaign as the Dons ran out comfortable 3-0 winners on a hugely disappointing day for Alan Archibald's side.

It is just the second time the SPFL Premiership newcomers have tasted defeat on their return to Scotland's top tier following their 1-0 loss at Fir Park last month.

And keeper Fox is determined the Jags will show the right reaction when they host Kilmarnock this weekend.

He said: "We got beat against Motherwell after a similar start to the game and then the next week we picked ourselves up against St Mirren.

"We even went a goal down to St Mirren but we came back to win it. We have got it in our locker to do it. It is just a learning curve but we know that we can do it and hopefully we will pick up next week.

"The gaffer spoke to us and said we would have days like that. Last year we had such a good season, we never suffered a big defeat or got played off the park like Saturday.

"This is a reality check. We are just looking forward to the game next week.

"Training on Monday will be the same and we will speak then."

Thistle went into the Firhill clash in high spirits following their impressive win in Paisley last time out but never hit the heights expected of them against Derek McInnes' side as the visitors showed why they have been tipped for a lofty league finish this term.

First-half goals from Calvin Zola and Peter Pawlett put Thistle on the back foot and any hopes of a late comeback were shattered when Josh Magennis fired home the third to leave the Jags licking their wounds.

Fox said: "We just never turned up and the performance just wasn't good enough.

"To be fair, Aberdeen were better than us in every position and in terms of the tempo they played at.

"We know that if we don't turn up in this league then we are going to be punished and Saturday just emphasised that even more.

"There have been a lot of positives for us but obviously Saturday was one of the negatives. We know we are going to lose games at this level.

"It is just about digging deep now and picking ourselves up on Monday and hopefully we can get the three points next week."

While Fox was named Man of the Match for keeping the scoreline down at Firhill, Jags defender Gabriel Piccolo endured a Premiership bow to forget.

He struggled to cope with the physical Dons forward line but Fox insists no criticism will be heading the Mexican's way.

He said: "Gabby has done well in the games he has played. The gaffer emphasised that we win as a team and lose as a team. Nobody is going to get blamed."
