FIERY winger Kallum Higginbotham admits he'll have to curb his temper and stop picking up silly bookings before he earns himself a spell on the sidelines.

The wide player was the star of the show as Partick Thistle got back to winning ways with a 3-1 thumping of Inverness Caledonian Thistle at Firhill.

Higgy got Jags' third goal 18 minutes from time after they'd fought back from trailing to Aaron Doran's early opener.

But the 25-year-old Thistle star was perhaps fortunate to still be on the park by that late stage after reacting to a strong challenge from Inverness midfielder Ross Draper.

He escaped a censure from referee Stephen Finnie, who later cautioned Higginbotham for a challenge on the visitors' goalkeeper Dean Brill.

Higgy admitted: "I thanked the ref for not booking me as some others would have done. It would have been a soft one.

"In the end I did get booked. I was just charging down the keeper and trying to win the ball. But it was my third yellow card already this season.

"I know I need to control my anger a bit and stop getting stupid bookings or eventually I'll be suspended. I missed one game last season after picking up too many cards, so I'll have to watch what I am doing."

Higginbotham was targeted by Inverness with a series of tough tackles as John Hughes' side tried to stop the Partick talisman in his tracks.

But the rough treatment only served to inspire him as he produced an eye-catching performance and his second goal of the season.

Higgy claimed: "It actually helps me when I get kicked.

"Some wingers will hide and don't want to know if they get a tough time. But it seems to spur me on a bit.

"I like to know I'm in a game. If the defenders are kicking me it makes me try harder to get one over them. There is a great deal of satisfaction when you come out on the winning side.

"It's certainly better than being kicked about and ending up on the losing side."

Saturday's win got Thistle on track again after back-to-back Premiership defeats.

After falling behind, Jags hit back before the break with goals from Steven Lawless and Abdul Osman. Then came the clincher from Higginbotham.

He said: "It was a fantastic performance from the lads. It was good to get three points, especially as Inverness had been flying high."
