IAN MAXWELL insists Partick Thistle won't break the bank to bolster their squad this summer.

The Jags have already completed deals with Callum Booth, Christie Elliott and Abdul Osman for the new campaign but a number of Firhill stars have yet to put pen-to-paper and to commit themselves to the club.

Boss Alan Archibald has started putting his plans in place for a third successive shot at the Premiership as Thistle look to improve on their eight place finish from this season.

And Managing Director Maxwell admits there is a fine balance to be struck between quality, quantity and cash for the Firhill hierarchy.

He told SportTimes: "If you look at the squad we have got, we have finished the season well, everybody is in good form and there is an argument for keeping everybody. If that happens, you don't sign anybody.

"There comes a point where you need to freshen it up and you are looking at two or three coming in just to change it about a bit.

"Everybody here probably deserves another crack at it because they have all done well but we can't go and sign a huge number of players because they are not all going to play and we don't have the cash to do it. We need to try and balance that.

"We have been in a situation where when we got up, everybody's wages went up and when we stayed up everybody's wages went up again.

"We are now at a point where there is a plateau because everybody's wages can't keep going up and up. All that is does is reduce the numbers in the squad.

"The offers we are making to players aren't because we don't think they are worth any more or don't want to give them any more, we need to look at the squad and see what we need and what it will cost. There is not an infinite pot of gold."
