STEVEN LAWLESS hopes Partick Thistle's five-star showing against Hamilton can kick-start their top-six bid this season.

Alan Archibald's side turned in one of their best performances of the campaign in midweek as Kris Doolan grabbed the headlines with four goals in a 5-0 triumph.

The Jags head to Kilmarnock this afternoon aiming to record back-to-back Premiership wins for the first time since their return to the top flight last term.

Victory will take them up to eighth place in the table as they look to push onwards and upwards in the second half of the campaign.

And Lawless admits confidence is high in the Firhill camp ahead of a crunch Killie clash.

He said: "We look at every game to get three points and push on. Hopefully we can do what we did the other night. We will go in with the same frame of mind and if we can get the win, brilliant.

"If we can add that to our game and kill teams off, or take our chances and hold out, that will push us on a lot more.

"A few times we have been caught out by late goals and not finishing teams off. So hopefully we can eradicate that and push on. If we do that, we will be a lot higher in the league

"It is about consistency; inconsistency is killing us. We need to take each performance into the next one and keep breeding confidence.

"We should be flying into the Kilmarnock game. We definitely have the squad, and the players believe in ourselves. If we can do that and take it into each game, then I don't see why we can't push up the league.

"We are not putting a label on it, but we can do a lot better than we have been doing. The belief and ability is in the squad."
