PARTICK boss Alan Archibald admits that consistency will be key for Jags as they look to keep moving up the league with a second win on the bounce.

Thistle secured their second Premiership win of the season last weekend when they came from behind to topple an Inverness side who had been in fine form ahead of their Firhill visit.

After starting the campaign in stunning fashion with a 4-0 win over Ross County, Archibald's team took only one point from their clashes with Dundee, Hamilton Accies and Aberdeen.

Tomorrow night St Mirren will head to Firhill and the Thistle gaffer is determined to build some league momentum.

He said: "It has been a positive week. There is nothing better than coming in on a Monday on the back of a good result and a good performance. The boys have been in fine form all week and hopefully we can build on this. That is the challenge for us now - to try to get two or three wins on the bounce.

"We spoke to the lads after the Inverness game and I mentioned to them that we can't go from winning comfortably on Saturday and then follow that with a disappointing result. We have to achieve a level of consistency. The game tomorrow gives us the chance to do that.

"Not because it's St Mirren we face but because we're at home. Last season it was our home form that let us down - you can't get consistency if you are not winning your home games.

"We know that the only way to climb the league table is to start winning matches back to back."

While Thistle are targeting a sustained run of form, St Mirren are looking to finally register their first point of the season.

The Saints have scored just one goal so far and have lost five league games on the spin to pin them to the bottom of the table alongside Ross County.

The pressure is building on new boss Tommy Craig and his players after a shocking start.

And Archibald is determined to pile even more misery on the beleaguered Buddies in the first of a quickfire double-header, with the clubs meeting again in the League Cup at Firhill next Tuesday night.

The Jags boss said: "We know that St Mirren have to get their first league win some time, so we have to focus on our own game and make sure they don't do it against us. We need to start on a positive note.

"Saints have played a lot of good football in the games I've analysed and I'd say they've been unlucky. I know what that's like because I've been there before.

"When you're not getting the breaks, nothing goes your way. That happened to them at Kilmarnock last weekend, so I can sympathise with Tommy. But we have to try to capitalise on the bad luck they're having."
