THE night we secured our place in the Premiership last season will live long in the memory for Partick Thistle fans - and hopefully we can give them another day to remember this weekend.

A win at home to St Mirren will confirm our place in the league for a third successive campaign and everyone at Firhill is looking forward to the game on Saturday.

The job is not done yet, but we have moved a step closer after a really good win at Ross County last weekend. It was another three points on the board and another game ticked off.

We are nearly there, but we are certainly not taking anything for granted.

We have stressed that to the boys, and it is business as usual as we prepare for the St Mirren game.

As long as we get the points that keep us safe, I don't think it matters too much where and how you do it.

But it would be great if we could get the job done at Firhill on Saturday, and in front of what will hopefully be a good crowd.

It would be nice to do it this weekend and give the home fans something to cheer about and hopefully that will be the case.

But the main thing is that we do it and we make sure we are safe as quickly as we can.

The situation this season is different from last year when we stayed up on the second last night with a terrific win at Tynecastle.

This time around, we are in a better position and can do it earlier - but there is still pressure on us.

We have expectations on ourselves to win the match on Saturday and we are going into it with confidence and on a good run.

We have played really well over the last few weeks and, with four games left, we want to get as many points on the board and finish as high up as we can.

There are still enough games left for us to catch Hamilton, but we will keep taking it one game at a time and we will see how things are after Saturday.

It has been a really good few weeks for us and I think the fact that we have had quite a settled team, especially at the back, has helped us.

It does help when you are playing with a settled side for a run of games. The boys know their jobs and they can get into a rhythm beside each other.

That is something we didn't have for much of the season and I think it has been a big plus for us over the last few games.

We have had a few clean sheets recently, which is a big positive for the back five and the whole team. We have defended really well, worked hard and kept a good shape.

We are always looking to improve as a team, however. We are in a good position just now and there are still twelve points to play for.

Our aim now is to try and be unbeaten in the remaining four games after getting off to a great start last weekend.

Hopefully we can get another win and get ourselves over the line to secure Premiership football for another season.
