DAN SEABORNE admits Partick Thistle must end their wait for back-to-back wins if they are to climb the Premiership standings.

After romping to a stunning 5-0 win over Hamilton Accies in midweek, Alan Archibald's side were held by Kilmarnock on Saturday afternoon.

Despite taking a second minute lead through Ryan Stevenson, it took a late leveller from Freddie Frans to earn the Jags a share of the spoils at Rugby Park.

Thistle have failed to win consecutive top flight matches since their return to this level last term and are now eight points adrift of sixth-placed St Johnstone in the table.

Inconsistency has cost the Jags dear as they have missed several chances to climb the standings and stopper Seaborne knows they must hit a sustained run of form.

He said: "Maybe subconsciously it is in the lads' heads but it isn't something that I think about. The press have caught hold of it, but not myself.

"It is something that needs to be done if we want to go to where we want to go to. If you win a game and lose a game, you are going to end up in the top six if you do that all season.

"Back-to-back wins is not something you have to do but it something we would like to do.

"We have got another game on Friday against St Mirren. In the last two, we have looked like we could win.

"We got the points on Wednesday and then got a draw here, which isn't a bad result. We have got the game on Friday that we want to go and get a result in."

Thistle went into the Killie clash in high spirits after their five star showing against Accies at Firhill but couldn't earn a win that would have taken them above Allan Johnston's side in the standings.

The Jags passed up a couple of decent chances in the first half as they looked to build on Stevenson's opener and put the game to bed.

And Seaborne knows they had to strike while the iron was hot as Josh Magennis and Manuel Pascali struck to leave Archibald's side needing a late fightback.

He said: "We didn't do well in the last fixture here. It was nice to go 1-0 up as early as we did but we had a few other chances and could have been three or four up inside the first few minutes.

"We started the game really well and done the right things in the right areas but then they came back into it. It was a difficult afternoon.

"Games are decided on mistakes and chances and maybe we needed a bit of luck. We played the other night and got a bit of luck so it evens itself out.

"It was a difficult afternoon and we came away with a point but really it still feels like it wasn't a great result.

"We started the game with good intensity on the front foot and we were outstanding in that period.

"We had to put the game to bed then and then be solid after that. It would have made it a lot easier afternoon instead of it being on a knife edge."

Thistle breathed a sigh of relief when referee Willie Collum waved away a penalty claim after Robbie Muirhead went down in the area in the second half.

It was the whistler's first game back in the middle after being dropped from Premiership action earlier this year.

Seaborne said: "To be fair, the ref was very lenient with everything. Magennis up front is physical and they have got a few decent physical players. Maybe another ref would have been a lot more picky and give fouls all the time but he let a lot go."
