PARTICK THISTLE have unveiled plans to expand their youth scouting network into the lower leagues of English football.

The club's youth development structure has been overhauled since the creation of the ThistleWeir Academy last year, with former Firhill striker Gerry Britton overseeing the next crop of Jags kids.

And Thistle are now on the lookout for volunteers to help them scour 12 divisions south of the Border - including the Conference Premier North and South and the Ryman Premier North and South.

Scouts will be responsible for compiling reports on teams and players and reporting to head of youth development Britton as Thistle continue to the look to the future.

The Jags have achieved considerable success since their academy structure was implemented last season, with the Firhill kids impressing in the Foyle Cup and Milk Cup in Northern Ireland earlier this summer.

There was disappointment for Scott McKenzie's Under-20 side last night, though, as they lost their Development League derby 3-2 to Celtic.

Goals from Paul McMullan, Fiacre Kelleher and Liam Henderson gave the Hoops victory at Cappielow.

Declan McDaid and Jordan Leyden netted for Thistle.
