Dan Seaborne is hoping to convince Partick Thistle manager Alan Archibald that he is worth a new contract in the remaining four matches of the season.

The centre-half is relaxed about his situation despite his current deal at Firhill expiring at the end of the campaign.

He would like to stay at the club, but recognises that it is up to all of the out-of-contract Jags players to prove that they deserve to be there.

“There’s not an awful lot to report on that front at the moment,” he said.

“It’s not something that’s at the forefront of my mind really, I just want to get back on the pitch and playing and enjoying the last few games.

“The club has been really good, from the manager to the players they’ve all made me feel really welcome from the off.

“It obviously helps when you’re playing week-in, week-out to settle in, but the bedding in period was really short and I’ve really enjoyed myself.

“Glasgow is a great city and I’ve really loved being here. My family have been up and visited and my Mrs really likes the city, so it’s a place I’d like to stay if something comes up.

“We’ve got the next few games to prove to the manager that we’re all worth spending the money on contracts to keep us at the club.”

Seaborne was crestfallen when Thistle failed to make the top six, and believes that injuries at the start of the season hindered their campaign.

Despite his own Firhill future being far from certain, he is optimistic about the Jags’ chances of reaching the top half of the table next season if they continue to add quality to their squad.

He said: “Year-by-year we want to improve, and if we can get seventh position that will mean a bit more money for the club too which would be good.

“Looking to next season, the manager’s recruitment has been good, so hopefully he can bring in one or two more players again and build the team up even more.

“We keep bringing in one or two players and they keep playing 25-30 games a season and fit right in.

“Everyone has played their part this year and the squad has been utilised quite a lot. Everyone has at least about 20 games under their belt this year, so it is important that we have a decent squad.

“That’s the most important thing, because this season we’ve had injuries and suspensions but whoever has come in has done really, really well.

“It’s a good problem for the manager to have when people do that.

“We had a few injuries at the start of the season and we didn’t have the best of runs. A touch of luck at the start of the season could have helped kick us off.

“I was out injured myself and we had quite a lot of chopping and changing in the team, so it was hard to bed in a team during pre-season to give us a running start.

“We faltered a little bit, so we just hope that we can have a good run over the next few games and take that momentum into pre-season and next season.”

Seaborne admits that there are still pressing issues to deal with this season, and although it is unlikely that Thistle could be dragged into the relegation scrap, he is desperate to put that particular issue to bed as soon as possible.

“We’re not safe by a long shot yet, and you don’t want to be dragged into fighting a relegation battle in the last two or three games,” he said.

“We’ve got an opportunity on Saturday to go and put some points on the board and pull further away.”
