Partick Thistle’s Christie Elliott is not a man who is fazed easily, and it is probably just as well.

The laidback Geordie will go to Celtic Park this evening with his Partick Thistle teammates looking to end the home side’s record of 20 consecutive domestic games without defeat.

The Hoops have also won their last 11, but Elliott is undaunted and firmly of the mindset that Thistle can be the ones to bring Brendan Rodgers’ bandwagon to a shuddering halt.

"These things are there to be broken,” Elliott said. “Celtic have been brilliant this season but teams have created chances against them.

"They can be got at it. Teams have created against them. It's just a matter of taking those chances and trying to hold on.

"But Celtic have been brilliant. They have been better than in previous years.

"I've enjoyed watching them. They have a new style under Rodgers and they have been more consistent. They attack more.

"Their confidence is high. Celtic are great going forward and it will be hard but if we can keep it tight, then hopefully we can cause problems.

"The first 15 minutes is always important at Celtic Park as you know they will come out really quickly.

"But if we can get past that spell at 0-0, hopefully we can start to create, take those chances and get a few goals.

"There will be chances at both ends, we know that. Motherwell scored three against them and still lost.

"They create chances in every match they play and we are all looking forward to playing there again.

"It's a massive game, we are looking forward to it and we will go there with confidence.

"We have done well at Celtic Park in the past, it's been close and we have created chances. We just need to take them now.”

There probably won’t be many punters brave enough to take on the long odds on a Thistle victory tonight, but Elliott doesn’t subscribe to the theory that the Jags have no expectations on their shoulders.

And after an impressive second-half showing at Tynecastle at the weekend yielded a vital point as a reward, he is hoping to prove a few more people wrong tonight.

"Is the pressure off us? In a way,” he said. “It's Celtic at their home ground and they have beaten every team this season.

"But there is pressure for ourselves to go and do as well as we can for the team.

"Every game is vital now, with the position we are in. We need as many points as possible.

"A result could really kick-start our season. One or two wins gets you up to sixth - it's that tight. That's what we want.

"The second half against Hearts gives us a lot of confidence. We changed the shape and created a lot, so we were disappointed not to win.”

Elliott himself has scored against Celtic in the past, but he will be hoping that if he manages to repeat the feat this evening it will be a goal that carries a fair bit more significance.

Not that he didn’t enjoy the sensation of netting against the Hoops, but Thistle then went on to lose 5-1 on the night that Celtic clinched that year’s title.

"[Fraser] Forster had a long run of clean sheets during that season so it was a good goal to score,” he said.

"It was a great feeling at the time. Scoring against one of the bigger teams is always nice and that was a big match.

"It was the night they won the league, they were 3-0 up at the time, and it meant nothing in terms of the game.

"But my family were up to watch me and it was good to score for them.”
