Alan Archibald is hoping Partick Thistle can “get at” Celtic this evening, believing that their long unbeaten record could actually prove a psychological hindrance to Brendan Rodgers’ men.

While the Hoops have won plaudits this season for their swashbuckling approach, there have been anxious moments late on during the narrow wins over Hamilton and Dundee recently.

Archibald is hoping to take advantage of any uncertainty Celtic may have in terms of their approach if the game tonight is still close going into the final stages.

“I think there are areas you can get at them, every team has shown that,” Archibald said.

“Dundee showed that towards the end on Saturday, we had a wee spell against them where we had a goal chopped off, scored a goal and then had a close call with a penalty claim.

“So as long as you stay in the game you’ve got a little chance.

“I don’t think you can turn the crowd because I think Brendan has got them all behind him, if anything it just goes a little bit quiet.

“As long as you stay in the game I think you can get at every team and set-plays are a big part of that.

“If you keep it close and as they are going for a record as well, maybe that will bring a bit of nervousness as well.

“They’re desperate to go unbeaten, without a doubt, and that will bring a bit of nervousness as well. Do they go and keep on battering teams as they used to do or do they hold off and keep things tight?”

While his counterpart in the opposing dugout tonight looks set to make further changes to his starting eleven for Thistle’s visit, Archibald isn’t expecting any tinkering Rodgers makes to significantly weaken his opponents.

“It depends what the changes are because [Scott] Sinclair is fit,” he said wryly.

“He brought a few in on Saturday, he made five changes and they are all right good players and younger lads will be the same, as I’ve seen some of them.

“When you’re putting younger lads into a really strong team it very rarely weakens it.”
