We may still be a day shy of Hogmanay, but Partick Thistle’s Ade Azeez knows already what his prime New Year’s resolution will be.

The imposing Jags centre-forward has been taken to heart by the Firhill faithful as well as boss Alan Archibald since his move north from AFC Wimbledon in the summer.

Unfortunately for the Londoner, the goals have not flowed quite as much as the warm welcome that flooded his way upon arrival in Glasgow back in June.

Azeez has netted just twice in 25 appearances for the Jags, a strike rate he admits himself is nowhere near where he wants it to be.

And the 22-year-old has told Sport Times how he is looking to repay the faith put in him over the last few months with mountains of goals in 2017.

“I’m enjoying it very much. The players, staff and fans have all treated me really well," he said.

“I’ve been playing well without obviously scoring the amount of goals I want. But I feel like I’m getting a chance.

“It’s just about getting the confidence in front of goal to take into 2017 and start banging them in regularly.

“It’s about rewarding the faith of everyone by getting the ball into the back of the net. I’m going to get chances and create chances, I just want it to go back in whether it’s off my knee or my back, I don’t care.

“I know that when one goes in here they will start coming, that’s my resolution for this year!”

This is Azeez’s first time in Scotland following a stint around the in the lower leagues in England having started out at Charlton as a trainee.

With another 18 months left on his term, there is no need to panic about finding the goal trail quickly, but he is keen to make up for lost time in his new home.

“I’ve got next season as well which relaxes you,” he said.

“It’s about getting my first season up here, seeing what it’s like and having a look at the opposition. Next year I’ll know more about everything. It’s good to have that security but I want to improve.”

Azeez will be looking to break his 10-game goal drought tomorrow when he faces Kilmarnock as he tries to sign off 2016 in style.

After the game the Englishman and his girlfriend Chloe are jetting off on a sightseeing trip to Paris and Disneyland, and he reckons a break could be just what he needs to recharge.

He said: “We are going to Paris for a couple of days and maybe go back for some time.

“I’ve never been before so it’ll be nice. My girlfriend and I are looking forward to and we are going to Disneyland too!

“I’m loving my time in Scotland and this time off has come just right for me. It will give me the chance to focus once again and hopefully kick on in the second part of the season.”

Meanwhile, it emerged yesterday that Thistle youngster James Penrice has moved to East Fife on loan until the end of the season.

The 18-year-old left-back is a promising talent emerging from the Thistle Weir Academy who made two appearances in the Jags first team last term.

He will now go to the League One side to get some valuable game time under new gaffer Barry Smith.
