David Amoo is adamant that Partick Thistle won’t be daunted by the trip to Pittodrie to face Aberdeen in the Scottish Cup quarter-final, saying that their win over St Johnstone proves they are a match for anyone.

The Jags earned an impressive victory in Perth thanks to Adam Barton’s first-half strike at the weekend, and Amoo believes they have what it takes to shock the Dons and make it to Hampden.

“We’re delighted to be through, it’s a tough place to go to St Johnstone and we had a few injuries as well, so all things considered it was a really good win,” Amoo said.

“Since I’ve been here we’ve won a few up there, so we were confident going to Perth and there’s not a lot of teams that can boast the record we do there.

“The draw probably could have been kinder, but I feel like we’ve played well in Aberdeen recently too without getting our rewards, so we’re due a good result against them.

“In periods, we’ve competed really well, but we just haven’t managed to score in decisive moments. It’s an opportunity to go up there and have a real go, we have nothing to lose and it’s a massive incentive to be able to play at Hampden in the next round.

"It’s something to look forward to and we think we can do well.”

The closing stages of the match could have been more comfortable for Thistle had Saints keeper Zander Clark not denied Amoo what looked a certain goal with a stunning reaction save.

“I thought I had scored, I was gutted,” said Amoo. “I was looking right behind the ball and I thought it was in, but then the keeper just clawed it away so I was disappointed not to get on the scoresheet.

“To get the win up there though and go through everything that we had to in order to get the result, it was a great performance.

“It’s nice to reward the fans a little bit for their support. They came up to Perth in numbers at the weekend and they were singing from the first minute to the last, so it was good to give them something back.

“You never know what might happen in the quarters, but fingers crossed we can get into the semi-finals and give them a day out at Hampden.”

Amoo has come back into the side in recent weeks after finding his first-team opportunities rather limited for a spell, and he is looking to make the most of his opportunity.

His contract at Firhill is up at the end of the season, and he is keen to catch his manager’s eye so that he might earn an extended stay at a club he has grown to love.

“I know it’s a cliché but I’m just trying to take it one game at a time at the moment,” he said. “We have really good players in my position and everyone has done well when given their chance.

“I have to try to do the same, and make the most of any opportunity that the manager gives me and play as well as I can.

"I would definitely be interested in staying. These things usually take care of themselves. You’ve just got to play the games, do the best you can, and fingers crossed you impress. But we’ll see what happens.

“The club will probably be looking at players and stuff. I just have to be patient and see what happens at the end of the season.

“I’m settled up here. I’ve been here about a year and a half and I’m really enjoying it. The fans are great, the other players are great and the management team have been really good with me since day one.

“I can’t complain about my time here at all, I’ve really enjoyed it.”
