ADE AZEEZ could hardly move a muscle by the end of his Parkhead shift apart from the ones in his face which allowed him the broadest of smiles.

The striker ran, ran and then ran some more against Celtic and still had enough about him to be alert enough to score an equaliser which resulted in a fantastic point for his Partick Thistle team.

Azeez is no shirker, but that hard graft has not been rewarded this season with as many goals as he would have liked – but it all came together for him on Wednesday.

And now a top six finish is within touching distance.

Azeez said: "I was knackered after the game. That was a proper shift against Celtic, man.

"I am just happy for the team that we got a point to take us one step closer to the top six. It would be massive for the club and the fans if we get there as we have never done it before

"Everyone at the club really wants it and it would be like we have really achieved something if we manage it.

"I have been getting myself into positions all season. I probably just lacked that little bit of confidence in front of goal.

"When you start to miss a few, you think 'I need a goal, I need a goal'. You probably put too much pressure on yourself and start to snatch at chances.

"I needed to relax. It was a relief to get that goal and it was nice to get it at Parkhead.”

It wasn’t the most spectacular of goals, but nonetheless Azeez’s finish was cool enough given he was tightly marked and Celtic are not in the habit of conceding too many, especially at home.

But he did leave with on regret, which was he didn't take a chance when in on goal. He was slow to get off a shot and Jozo Simunovic made a terrific tackle.

Azeez recalled: “The Celtic defender slid in and thinking about it now, I should maybe have chopped back inside.

"But I thought I'd tried to take it on. Sometimes they go in, sometimes they don't.

"It's now going through my head that I could have scored the goal to end Celtic's unbeaten run. But at the time, I was just thinking, 'Try to get a shot away' because anything can happen...deflections or whatever.

"After the game, in hindsight, you start to think 'I could have done this or that' But I felt I needed to take a shot. It felt like the best option but it wasn't to be.”
