CHRISTIE ELLIOTT admits Partick Thistle were ‘devastated’ as they let a famous Firhill win slip through their grasps on Sunday.

The Jags were on course to end their 24-year long wait for victory over Rangers but were left with nothing to show for their efforts against the Light Blues.

Kris Doolan headed home Elliott’s cross to give Alan Archibald’s side a first half lead before the striker and Stevie Lawless both came close to doubling their advantage.

Substitute Barrie McKay fired in an equaliser with just eight minutes remaining and it soon got worse for Thistle as Joe Garner headed home the winner at the death.

It was the latest in a long line of collapses from Archibald’s side this term and Elliott was distraught as a crucial three points were snatched away.

He said: “Gutted, just totally devastated for all the effort we put in throughout the game.

“Obviously we just need to take our chances, in the first half we had a few which we should have put away. I felt we controlled the game for about 70 minutes but to come away with nothing is heart-breaking.

“The gaffer is probably right as we’ve had a lot of hard games and it does take it out of you.

“But we’ve got to cut that out of our game as we conceded a lot of late goals in games and it’s happened too many times now.

“If we can hang on a bit longer or get that extra goal it would take us a step forward.

“We controlled the game for about 70 minutes, we created a lot of chances.

“I didn’t really see a threat from Rangers but a game can change as soon as they got a goal it can go either way and they got the winner and all the lads are heartbroken now.

“Rangers have taken all the points from us this season but in this game we controlled the game and we’re all just gutted.”
